The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero opened a consultation on 9 December 2025 on proposed changes to the Ecodesign for Energy Related Products Regulations 2010.
The proposal would extend the current system allowing products with the European Union’s CE (Conformité Européenne) marking to be sold in Great Britain if they meet Great Britain’s ecodesign standards.
The change would ensure that CE marking continues to be recognised for new EU rules under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), expected to replace the existing Ecodesign Directive from 2027.
The consultation may be relevant for manufacturers and suppliers of energy related products, as the proposal, if approved, could provide long term certainty and reduce costs by removing the need for separate UK Conformity Assessment checks.
Responses can be submitted online here, by email to efficientproducts@energysecurity.gov.uk, or by post to the Energy-Related Products Team, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, 3-8 Whitehall Place, London SW1A 2EG. The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 20 January 2026.
