Changes to retained EU Law mean EU markings comply with UK requirements

Last week, the Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment) Regulations 2024 were published, which amend many texts that were originally EU law but have been retained in the UK. The new amendments remove the expiry date for the validity of EU markings within the UK, meaning that for many areas, EU markings will be enough to comply with UK Regulations. The affected Regulations include the following: Noise Emission in the Environment by Equipment for use Outdoors Regulations 2001 Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products Regulations 2010 Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2012 Explosives Regulations 2014 Simple Pressure Vessels (Safety) Regulations 2016 Lifts Regulations 2016 Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 The changes to each of these regulations allows for the UK Conformity Assessment or testing requirements to be satisfied by complying with the corresponding EU conformity assessment or testing. This change will take effect on 1 October 2024. |
