The Proposed new House of Commons Environment Bill advanced to committee stages on 26 February 2020. It will be heard in committee between 10 March 2020 and 5 May 2020. The Environment Bill which was introduced by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs in January 2020. The Bill is currently devided into two main sections, one on Environmental Governance and the second on Sustainable Resource management. It looks at the broad topics of:

Waste and Resource Management
Air Quality
Water
Nature and Biodiversity
Conservation Covenants

Following the Withdrawal of the UK from the European Union, this bill intends to bring standards which are currently applied under EU law into the standards of UK Environmental Law. Further it confirms the intent of the UK to continue following the REACH regulations, while making amendments to their implementation for the UK context. This Bill also sets up an Office for Environmental Protection which would both work on the strategic development of environmental protection but also take part in the enforcement of environmental standards in the UK. The bill will be further discussed in the House of Commons Public Bill Committee. A number of amendments have also already been introduced.
