US: OSHA Issues Request for Information on Updating Lockout Tagout Regulations

In the May 20, 2019 edition of the Federal Register Federal OSHA issued a request for information (RFI) regarding updates it is considering to the control of hazardous energy (Lockout/Tagout) standard. This RFI seeks information regarding areas where modernizing the Lockout/ Tagout standard might better promote worker safety without additional burdens to employers: control circuit type devices and robotics. OSHA is now considering adding control circuit type devices to the definition of energy isolating devices (EIDs) due to technological advances since the standard was issued in 1989 that might make such devices as safe as existing EIDs. Comments in response to this RFI must be received by August 19, 2019. Source: OSHA Issues Request for Information on Updating Lockout Tagout Regulations, 84 FR 22756, May 20, 2019.
