Have your say on the draft safe use of lifting equipment ACOP! [UK]

On 20 August, the Health and Safety Executive announced the start of a public consultation on the draft the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment Approved Code of Practice (‘LOLER ACOP’).

Some of the changes contained in the draft ACOP include:

  • Bringing the guidance in line with other advice for example clarifying that you should not take equipment within 10m of overhead power cables;
  • The context and examples have been expanded to shown that LOLER applies across every sector using lifting equipment. New examples show the impact on the health and social care sector.
  • Also there are clearer and more comprehensive examples as to which types of equipment fall under the LOLER Regulations.

By way of reminder, the HSE is consulting on amendments to the LOLER ACOP following recommendations made by Professor Lofstedt in his wide ranging report on EHS legislation in the UK.

The consultation started on the 20 August and will finish on 14 October, anyone wishing to comment should do so either via the HSE website or downloading the form and sending it by post.
