UK: Changes to simple pressure vessels and pressure equipment regulations in Northern Ireland

As a result of Brexit, Great Britain will stop updating the retained EU laws currently in use in the UK after 31 December 2020. On the other hand, the protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland requires that Northern Ireland should still follow EU directives. Based on this principle, on 2 July 2020, Northern Ireland published The Pressure Vessels (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 to amend Simple Pressure Vessels (Safety) Regulations 2016 and Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 in respect of Northern Ireland. This amendment is based on Directive 2014/29/EU – the Simple Pressure Vessels EU Directive.
