The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has published the Consultation on amending the use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment regulations –

On 6th November 2018 the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has published the Consultation on amending the use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment regulations. This Consultation is Seeking views on updating the RoHS regulations to bring the amended EU directive 2017/2102 into UK law. The Department wants to know what are the thoughts about its planned approach for transposing EU directive 2017/2012 into UK law. The change will correct some unintended consequences of widening the definition of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) products. In particular, the change will stop the restriction on selling second-hand products and repairing with spare parts. The Department plans on updating the Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2012. The amended regulation would be laid on 4 March 2019 and come into force from 29 March 2019. This consultation closes at 11:45pm on 4 December 2018.
