US EPA Proposes Adding a New Compound to List of VOCs Excluded from Definition of VOCs

In May 1, 2018 Federal Register, the US EPA proposed adding a new compound to the list of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)s excluded from the definition of VOCs under the Clean Air Act (CAA). Comments in response to this proposal must be received on or before July 2, 2018.
 The compound being added to this excluded list are cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-ene (also known as HFO-1336mzz-Z; CAS number 692-49-9. The reason for the addition of this compound is, according to EPA, because the compound makes a negligible contribution to tropospheric ozone (O3) formation. Comments in response to this proposal must be received by EPA on or before July 2, 2018. Comments can be submitted at http://www.regulations.gov identifying Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2017-0175.
