Railways and Guided Transport Amendments [UK]

The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems Regulations 2015 (S.I. 2015/1917) come into force on 11th December 2015.

These regulations amend the Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems Regulations 2006 and implement Commission Directive 2014/88/EU in respect of common safety indicators and methods of calculating accident costs.

The 2014 Directive makes amendments to the common safety indicators (CSI’s) in Annex I to the 2004/49/EC Directive. Regulation 20 of the 2006 Regulations requires operators on the mainline railway to report on statistics for safety indicators.

The 2014 Directive also makes amendments to how economic costs of accidents are calculated.

The 2015 Regulations substitute the reference to schedule 3 of the 2006 Regulations for a reference to Annex I to Directive 2004/49/EC and it also revokes schedule 3 of the 2006 Regulations.
