Kansas KDHE: a Public Hearing on Air Pollution? [US]

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has expressed an interest to summon a public hearing to revise the State Implementation Plan (SIP) for the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR).

Any member of the public may request the hearing and must contact KDHE by September 25th 2015 to do so.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implemented CSAPR to limit NOx and SO2 Emissions in upwind states and address pollution problems in downwind states, and requires 28 states to revise their SIPs and reduce power plant emissions.  KDHE is now revising the Kansas SIP to assume authority over Kansas’ current unit source allocations and new unit allocations in the Transport Rule Nitrogen Oxides Annual Trading Program for 2017-2019  under CSAPR.

If stakeholders request a hearing regarding the Kansas SIP revision for CSAPR, it will be held on Wednesday October 7th 2015 in the Flint Hills Conference Room, third floor, Curtis State Office Building, 1000 S.W. Jackson, Topeka, K.S. 66612.

Any interested individual may submit written comments by 5 P.M. on October 7th 2015 to Zac Graves, KDHE, Bureau of Air, 785-296-8142 or zgraves@kdheks.gov.

Copies of the proposed SIP revision may be obtained from the KDHE Bureau of Air at http://www.kdheks.gov/ bar/planning/pnplanning.html.
