California: State Water Resources Control Board Announces New Emergency Drought Regulations

In the June 24, 2022, edition of the California Register, the California State Water Resources Control Board announced emergency drought restrictions. The new regulation states that the use of potable water is prohibited for the irrigation of non-functional turf at commercial, industrial, and institutional sites. The purpose of the rulemaking is to further efforts to mitigate effects of the ongoing severe drought. The emergency regulations cover two areas:

(1) a ban on irrigating non-functional turf and (2) a requirement that urban water suppliers implement the Level 2 demand reduction actions in their water shortage contingency plan. The emergency regulation expires June 23, 2023
