California: California Air Resources Board Proposes Zero-Emission Forklift Regulation

On November 10, 2023, in the California Regulatory Notice Register, the California Air Resources Board (“CARB”) proposed a Zero-Emission Forklift Regulation. This proposed regulation would require the phase out of most large-spark ignition (“LSI”) forklifts. This would reduce criteria–pollutant and GHG emissions within the State by accelerating the transition to zero–emission technology (i.e., battery–electric, fuel cell–electric, or other zero–emission technology as the only source of power for propulsion and work).

The Proposed Regulation would target most existing LSI forklifts for use of zero–emission technology. The written comment period ends December 26, 2023.
