On November 13th, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced modifications to the Significant New Use Rules (SNURs) of five certain chemical substances under section 5(a)(2) of the Toxic Substances Control Act
In response to new data that the EPA obtained about these substances, this final rule amends the SNURs to permit certain uses of these chemicals without requiring a significant new use notice (SNUN), which notifies the EPA that the facility intends to use the chemical before starting an activity.
Specifically, the SNUR for oxirane has been amended to state that notice is not required once the chemical substance has been incorporated into plastic.
The rule also imposes new SNUN requirements to certain uses of titanate and dipotassium as well as partially fluorinated alcohol substituted glycols .
This final rule is effective on January 12th, 2016.
