Low-level radioactive waste actors affected by this amendmentBoth the licensee and generators of low-level radioactive waste will be affected by this amendment. Chapter 336 of TAC states the management of low-level radioactive waste is accomplished by a system of interstate compacts and the development of regional disposal sites. The Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact designates a compact waste disposal facility to be the sole facility for disposal of low-level radioactive waste for generators within the states of Texas and Vermont.
What waste disposal fees ?A licensee who receives low-level radioactive waste for disposal pursuant to the Compact collects a fee to be paid by each person who delivers low-level radioactive waste to the compact waste disposal facility. The TCEQ is required to adopt and periodically revise compact waste disposal fees, and the TCEQ has revised the disposal rate for shielded low-level radioactive waste from $250 per cubic foot to $180 per cubic foot.
