Only so much sulphur allowed in Heavy Fuel and Gas Oil! [IE]

The Notice of the making of The European Union (Sulphur Content of Heavy Fuel Oil and Gas Oil) Regulations 2014 was published in the Iris Oifigiuil of 20 June 2014.

 The purpose of these 2014 Regulations is to transpose into domestic Irish law certain provisions of the consolidated and amended European Directive 1999/32/EC. The Regulations set out the permitted limits of sulphur content that may be present in petroleum derived fuels.

Regulation 4. (1)  of the 2014 Regulations states that: “A person or operator shall not use heavy fuel oil, the sulphur content of which exceeds 1% by mass.” The 2014 Regulations came into operation on 20 June 2014.
