COP21, the most eagerly awaited event of the year

COP21 (Conference of Parties) began on the 30 of November in Paris and is undoubtedly a key global event as the year comes to a close. With over 40,000 participants from 195 countries, the 21st edition of the world summit on climate change is anticipated as being an historic turning point for the future of our planet.

One of the Conference’s proposals is to limit global warning to less than 2°C (35.6°F) above pre-industrial levels and is seen as a symbolic obligation for all 195 countries taking part. The measure follows an alarming report published in November by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) estimating a rise in the earth’s temperatures from 0.3°C (32.54°F) to 4.8°C (40.64°F) by 2100.

To engage in these extremely important discussions, the heads of states, ministers and official delegates of the participating nations will be at the Le Bourget site in Paris from the 30 of November to the 11 of December 2015. Among them, delegates of the world’s largest polluters including China (responsible for 22% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions), the United States, Australia and India will take their seats at the negotiating table to strike an agreement in favour of combatting global warming and protecting the future of humanity.

Sustainable Innovation Forum: COP21 for companies

Major industrial figures, companies and large international groups are also implicated in the COP21 debates with some industries singled out for their significant CO2 emissions. However, larger businesses will have the opportunity to show their growing awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as well as their research and progress on this front.

Companies that are especially proactive will have the possibility of participating in COP21’s Sustainable Innovation Forum on the 7 and 8 of December at the Stade de France in Paris. 80 prestigious speakers and 750 international stakeholders will be present, as well as UNEP (The United Nations Environment Programme) and Climate Action. The Forum’s goal is not only to promote global awareness but also to deliver a positive message with alternatives to current systems in place and encourage their development.
