EU Environmental regulations : Public consultation on the evaluation of the EU Timber Regulation

On 15 April 2015, the European Commission (EC) launched public consultations on the evaluation of Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 of 20 October 2010 laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market (the EU Timber Regulation). The consultation, open until 3 July 2015, allows stakeholders to share their experiences and views on the implementation of EU Timber Regulation since its entry into force in March 2013.

Objectives of the EU consultation of the Timber regulation

The objective of the consultation is to contribute to the review report on the functioning and effectiveness of EU Timber Regulation, mainly for the prevention of the placing on the market of illegally harvested timber or products derived from such timber, that the EC must submit to the European Parliament and the Council no later than 3 December 2015.

Regulatory reminder  on the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Indonesia

As a reminder, in its decision 2014/284/EU of 14 April 2014, the Council of the European Union (EU) approved the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Indonesia on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber products into the EU. This agreement ensures, through an authorization scheme, that the wood imported from Indonesia is produced legally.
