DEFRA opens consultation and Call for Evidence on waste electrical equipment
On 28th December 2023, The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) opened a public consultation on proposed reforms to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013, focusing on the producer responsibility system for waste. They also opened a Call for Evidence to gather views and support on the reforms.
The public consultation is seeking views on proposed reforms to the WEEE regulations. The purpose of the proposed changes is to reduce the environmental impact of electrical and electronic products to drive towards a circular economy. An important proposal is the reform to take-back of products by suppliers and retailers.
DEFRA have also published a Call for Evidence to gather opinion on the proposed reforms, which will inform policy decisions going forward.
The consultation and Call for Evidence are open until 11:45pm on 7th March 2024. Further information and links to complete the surveys can be accessed here:
