EPA audit policy to allow electronic self-reporting for environmental violations [US]

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to launch an “eDisclosure” portal that will allow facilities to self-disclose environmental violations.
The EPA’s audit policy will allow entities that discover environmental violations at their facilities to self-report and potentially qualify for more lenient penalties. One example of this is the EPA‘s issue of electronic Notices of Determination, which resolve electronically self-reported Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA) violations without assessing civil penalties.
Since the eDisclosure program does not amend the requirements of the audit policy, facilities will still need to adhere to the current reporting timelines to take advantage of the self-reporting option.
