President Trump Signs Executive Order Rolling Back Obama Administration’s Climate Change Initiatives

On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed Executive Order 13,783, “Promoting Energy Independence and Economic Growth.” The Executive Order takes a number of steps to roll back climate change initiatives and increase domestic energy production. The Executive Order requires federal agencies review of all existing regulations, policies, orders, guidance documents, and other agency actions that potentially burden the development or use of domestically produced energy resources and publish a report on their findings. It also revokes President Obama’s Executive Order 13,653, “Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change,” along with three Obama-era presidential memoranda addressing climate change and natural resources. The following are the headings of the Executive Order’s eight sections, which give one a good overview of the Order’s contents:
