[IE] Amending registration and permits for waste management

A notice published in the Iris Oifigiuil of 11 July 2014 announced the making of the “Waste Management (Facility Permit And Registration) (Amendment) Regulations 2014 that amends the 2007 Regulations of the same name.

The amendments introduced by the 2014 Regulations are to strengthen the traceability of waste that is offered for recovery or recycling:

“[Regulation 19(1)(i)] conditions aimed at ensuring full traceability of any waste purchased in order to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Act and to protect the environment and human health…” A duty is placed  on the person offering the waste to prove ownership through the presentation of designated identification documents. The waste facility must also keep records of all transactions including copies of the identification documents or they will be in breach of these Regulations.
