OSHA to Begin Enforcement of Some Beryllium Standard Provisions

In a May 10, 2018 news release, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced in a memorandum that it will begin enforcing some of the beryllium rule provisions in general industry, construction, and shipyards on May 11, 2018.
The requirements that will be enforced beginning May 11, 2018 are they permissible exposure limits in all three standards, as well as the exposure assessment, respiratory protection, medical surveillance, and medical removal provisions in the general industry standard. Other ancillary provisions will not be enforced until June 25, 2018. OSHA also plans to issue a proposal to extend this compliance date for the ancillary provisions to December 12, 2018. Other compliance deadlines that were originally dated beyond December 12, 2018 remain unchanged: the general industry requirements for change rooms and showers will begin March 11, 2019; and requirements for engineering controls will begin March 10, 2020.
