EPA Extends Compliance Deadlines for Formaldehyde Emissions Standards for Composite Wood Products

On September 25, 2017 federal EPA issued a final rule extending the compliance deadlines for its formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products. EPA believes the extended compliance deadlines will reduce compliance burdens and prevent supply chain disruptions, while still ensuring compliant composite wood products enter the market in a timely manner. EPA had previously released a proposed rule and direct final rule extending the deadlines. EPA received one adverse comment, and accordingly withdrew its direct final rule and continued with the proposed rule. The effective date for this final rule is October 25, 2017.
