California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board Proposes New PEL for Benzyl Chloride

On July 28, 2017 the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (OSHA) proposed new permissible exposure limits (PELs) for Benzyl Chloride. The regulation of Benzyl Chloride is found in Section 5155, Air Contaminants, Table AC-1. The specific changes lower the existing PEL from an 8-hour TWA of 1 ppm (5 mg/M^3) to .03 ppm (.16 mg/M^3). The California OSHA Board will hold a public hearing at 10:00 AM on September 14, 2017 in the Council Chambers of the Walnut Creek City Hall, 1666 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, California. At this hearing individuals may present statements or argument orally or in writing relevant to the proposal. Written or oral comments may also be submitted to the Board’s office. This comment period closes on September 14, 2017. Comments can be mailed to Sarah Money, Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, 2520 Venture Oaks Way, Suite 350, Sacramento, CA 95833 or by e-mail to oshsb@dir.ca.gov.
