EPA Extends Comment Period Granting Petitions to Add n-Propyl Bromide to Hazardous Air Pollutants (US)

n-Propyl Bromide

In the March 6, 2017 Federal Register, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a notice extending the public comment period on the draft notice published on January 9, 2017 announcing the EPA’s decision to add n-Propyl Bromide (nPB) to the Clean Air Act §112(b)(1) Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP) List. The comment period will be extended by 90 days from March 10, 2017 to June 8, 2017. The purpose of this action is to allow for adequate consideration of the request to extend the comment period by more than 6 months.

In the proposed rule published on January 9, 2017 to add nPB, also known as 1‑bromopropane (1-BP), to the list of HAP (82 FR 2354), the EPA announced its determination that “there is adequate evidence to support a determination that emissions and ambient concentrations of nPB may reasonably be anticipated to cause adverse health effects.” That draft notice of this proposed rule contained a comment period, and it is because of that comment period that this action extends to June 8, 2017 (82 FR 12589).
