Controlling priority substances in the Water Environment [UK]

A new rule is to amend the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2003 and will come into force on 14th September 2015.

The so-called Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 will transpose certain details of Directive 2013/39/EU, namely the requirement for the Environment Agency to establish a monitoring programme in river basin districts for substances 34 to 45 in the table of priority substances. The programme must contain measures that serve to achieve and maintain good surface water chemical status by December 2027.
