Capital allowances: new energy efficient technology lists [UK]

The Capital Allowances (Energy-saving Plant and Machinery) (Amendment) Order 2015 amends the Capital Allowances (Energy-saving Plant and Machinery) Order 2001.

What is the purpose of the amendments?

The amendments come into force on 4 August 2015 and apply across the UK. The amendments bring into effect the new lists of qualifying technologies and products for the purposes of the enhanced capital allowances (ECA) scheme for energy efficient technologies.

The 2001 Order introduced the ECA scheme, which provides businesses with 100% first-year capital allowances for expenditure on qualifying energy-saving plant and machinery technologies.

The technologies which qualify for the scheme can be found in the revised Energy Technology Criteria List and Energy Technology Product List, both issued on 2 July 2015, which replace the lists published last year.

The new lists can be found on the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s website and are linked below.
