[EU] REACH: proposal to amend the Annex on Safety data sheets

European Commission (EC) published a Regulation proposal amending Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) last February.

Checklist of requirements for the compilation of SDS (safety Data Sheets)

  • That Annex lays down requirements for the compilation of safety data sheets (SDS), providing information on chemical substances and mixtures in the European Union (EU).
  • In addition, another amendment proposed by the EC provides that SDS provided to any recipient before 1 June 2015 may continue to be used and need not comply with the amendments to Annex II until 31 May 2017.

The objective of the amendments to Annex II to REACH Regulation is to avoid the confusion that could result from two contradictory amendments to that Annex which shall enter into force simultaneously on 1 June 2015.

Annual report on the progress made with regard to registrant’s compliance

As a reminder, in a press release dated 26 February 2015, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the publication of its annual report on the progress made during 2014 with regard to registrants’ compliance with their obligations under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH Regulation).

This report also contains recommendations for future registrants for the 2018 deadline as well as for existing registrants who may need to update their registration dossiers.
