Amendments to Pressure Equipment Regulations [UK]

These are the Pressure Equipment (Amendment) Regulations 2015, which come into force on 1st June 2015 and amend the Pressure Equipment Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/2001).

Safety of work equipment : New Pressure equipment Regulations

The Pressure Equipment Regulations 1999 implemented Directive 97/23/EC (“1997 Directive”) of the European Parliament, however this 1997 Directive will be replaced by Directive 2014/68/EU (“2014 Directive”) of the European Parliament.  New Pressure Equipment Regulations will be put in place in 2016, however Article 13 of the 2014 Directive must be in force and apply from the 1st June 2015 and is thus implemented by these Regulations.

Article 13 to harmonise with the CLP Regulation

The implementation of Article 13 of the 2014 Directive is to harmonise with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures Regulation (CLP Regulation).  Article 13 2014 Directive will replace Article 9 of the 1997 Directive and so the hazard classifications will be updated to be in line with the 2014 Directive.

Regulation 3 to replace definition of “fluid in Group 1”

Regulation 3 will replace the definition of “fluid in Group 1” in the 1999 Regulations which will implement the new “classifications in the 2014 Directive in accordance with the classes set out in Parts 2 and 3 of Annex I of the CLP Regulation. Regulation 4 amends the definition of ‘fluid in Group 2’ consequentially.” For further information please refer to the legislation directly. Red-on-line EHS Legal expert
