Safe Work Australia releases nine packages of model Work Health and Safety guidance [AU]

HS/Specific Working Conditions Safe Work Australia released guidance material in nine occupational health and safety topics to help those with health and safety obligations comply with the law. The guidance material consists of guides, information sheets, and checklists.

The nine topics discussed in the new guidance materials are:

  • Workplace traffic management
  • Managing cash-in-transit security risks
  • Managing risks in forestry operations
  • Industrial lift trucks
  • Amusement devices
  • Safe design, manufacture, import and supply of plant
  • Working in the vicinity of overhead and underground electric lines
  • Formwork and falsework; and
  • Scaffolds and scaffolding work

This material was agreed to by a majority of Safe Work Australia members in June 2014.

The guidance material is informational and does not contain any mandatory obligations. Only the WHS Act and Regulations enacted in each state create binding obligations; the guidance material provides recommended and optional courses of action to help those with WHS obligations comply with the law.

The guidance materials are based on the model WHS Act and Regulations, so they may not be as helpful in Victoria because Victoria has not enacted WHS laws based in the model WHS Act and Regulations.
