Amendment to air emissions risk assessment for your environmental permit

‘Air emissions risk assessment for your environmental permit’ guidance has been amended, specifically relating to PECs (Predicted Environmental Concentrations) and Protected Conservation Areas. The original guidance was published 1st February 2016, updated 2nd August 2016 and relates to England. In relation to the ‘Air emissions risk assessment for your environmental permit’, a number of amendments have been made. This includes:
  • In the second stage of screening, the section previously referred to as ‘Screen out insignificant PECs (Predicted Environmental Concentrations)’ is now referred as ‘Screen out PECs from detailed modelling’.

  • The section ‘Screening for protected conservation areas’ has been changed back to its original text, as previously the text had incorrectly pre-empted work that was being undertaken around thermal size and screening distances. This relates to distances of 10km for an installation or 15km for a coal/oil fired power station. Sites greater than 50 megawatts may mean larger screening distances and advice can be sought from the National Permitting Service.
